Job Description

GlycoMIP is a multi-university, federally funded center involving a large in-house research program, national user facility, and education and outreach program.  

The Synthesis Technician reports to the GlycoMIP Managing Director with accountability to the Director of the GlycoMIP Materials Facility. The Synthesis Tecnician works with the Technical Manager to execute and document carbohydrate-related research projects. This position oversees upkeep of synthesis-related equipment and reports issues directly to the Director of the GlycoMIP Materials Facility. It is expected that the Synthesis Technician will cross-train with other positions on lab responsibilities as well as be involved with GlycoMIP training and outreach. The Synthesis Technician will be a motivated team player to support the infrastructure, and assist with the operation of the User Facility on a day-to-day basis; including synthesis, chromatographic, and mass spectrometry resources.

Required Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry or related field, with an emphasis on organic synthesis
• Experience with independent laboratory research
• Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow standard operating protocols in a laboratory setting
• Capable of working in a team environment
• Demonstrated attention-to-detail and documentation of research activities

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to trouble-shoot equipment
• Practical organic synthesis and purification skill sets
• Experience using laboratory management systems
• Experience with training and outreach activities
