Job Description

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech seeks applications to fill two full-time academic year tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The positions are located at the Blacksburg, Virginia campus.   The technical areas of interest for the tenured/tenure-track positions are 1) Quantum Photonics and 2) RF Circuits and Systems for next generation communications and sensing. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial and inclusive department with a strong tradition in teaching and research.

The Quantum Photonics (QP) position will consider candidates whose research include disciplines such as: quantum photonic devices and circuits, entangled-photon sources, quantum sensing, quantum communications and cryptography, and nanophotonics.  More broadly, the successful QP candidate should contribute to Virginia Tech's growing strength and leadership in Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) research, education, and outreach. The RF Circuits and Systems position will consider candidates with expertise in analog/mixed-signal circuits and systems, neuromorphic circuits, RF ICs and systems, microwave/mm-wave integrated circuits, circuit technology for 5G/6G communications, and other relevant topics.  Most of these topics are studied within the MICS (Multifunctional Integrated Circuits and Systems) and Wireless@VT groups in the department, and the candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with these groups. Tenure-track/tenured faculty will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, nationally recognized, funded research program. There are rich opportunities for collaboration with existing strengths across the University. Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field completed prior to employment; effective communication skills; demonstrated excellence in research, scholarship, and teaching, or evidence of high potential for such excellence; ability to articulate a coherent agenda of research and scholarship, and to identify potential funding sources to support such research; willingness and ability to work in a technology-based research and education environment, such as is characterized by use of learning technologies, distance learning, online courses, video-conferencing, and network-based collaborative research.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest or experience working effectively with a diverse student population; prior experience in the role of PI or Co-PI on funded research projects; ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines. Experience in working with students as an academic or career advisor, overseeing student internships or service-learning activities; interest or experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research.
