Job Description

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics (AAEC) invites applications for an Associate Professor of Practice position that will be effectively 50-percent working on creating an Online Masters of Agricultural & Life Sciences (OMALS) specialization in Agribusiness Management and 50-percent collaborating on the Farm Credit Administration (FCA) certificate program. Additional opportunities may arise to work in the residential M.S. program. The position is a restricted, nontenure-track, academic year appointment. Candidates are sought to provide high-quality graduate teaching and advising in the broad areas of agribusiness management and marketing. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: agricultural database management, career/professional development, farm credit and financial management, advanced agribusiness management, advanced agribusiness marketing, or agribusiness analytics. Delivery modes may include traditional classroom-based instruction, online instruction, or hybrid formats. Other courses may be assigned depending on the background of the successful candidate and the needs of the department. The typical teaching expectation will be three courses per semester, although adjustments to this may be made depending on the nature of other duties that may be assigned. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with advising and mentoring graduate students, recruiting new students to our programs, building linkages with industry and agricultural agencies, particularly Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) and FCA, and development and delivery of continuing education programs for career professionals.

Required Qualifications

Completed Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Management or closely related field; Coursework and/or successful experience in teaching courses in agri-business management, marketing, and/or finance; Experience developing and delivering courses in an online or hybrid format; Coursework and/or successful experience in developing working relationships with agribusiness managers, loan officers, decision makers, and hiring authorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience of advising students for experiential learning activities such as competitions or student consulting and investing experiences; A record of preparing and presenting management-focused educational programs such as teaching curricula and materials, management decision aids, and peer-reviewed documents for professional distribution and recognition.
