Job Description

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech collegiate faculty position at the collegiate assistant or associate professor level. Located in Blacksburg, it will primarily contribute to the ECE undergraduate program, especially in Computer Engineering. We are seeking candidates motivated to contribute to a collegial, interdisciplinary community with a strong tradition of both fundamental and applied research.

The Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers B.S., M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering with a current enrollment of approximately 1,100 undergraduate and 560 graduate students. The department has 82 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 17 non-tenure-track faculty located in two primary locations, which are the Blacksburg Campus and the Greater Washington, DC area including the new VT Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Annual research expenditures exceed $60M. Recognition of faculty accomplishments includes 4 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 31 Fellows of the IEEE, and various fellows of other professional societies, 22 NSF CAREER awardees, and 4 DoD Young Investigators. The latest graduate ranking by U.S. News & World Report (USN&WR) places the graduate programs in EE at 16th and CPE at 20th. According to the 2020 Shanghai Rankings, the ECE department is ranked 24th globally and 13th nationally. The department has some of the nation’s best programs in the areas of fiber optics and photonics, space science and remote sensing, wireless communications and networking, power electronics, power systems, autonomous systems, embedded systems, and computational biology. Required Qualifications

A PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field completed prior to employment; effective communication skills; previous teaching experience at the graduate level in ECE or a related field; a strong record of academic accomplishments; a proven ability to work collaboratively; experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction and a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex technical and societal challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest or experience working effectively with a diverse student population; relevant industry experience in one of the technical areas mentioned above; willingness and ability to work in a high-tech environment, such as online instruction and distance learning; experience working in academia and collaborating with industry; experience working with industry to facilitate student project funding.
