Job Description

Provide academic and career advising services to undergraduate and graduate students in the Mechanical Engineering Department as well as prospective students enrolled in Engineering Education and other majors on campus. Develop and coordinate the academic advising programs and services for Mechanical Engineering. Enrollment activities include advising, registration and scheduling, graduation clearance, orientation, and recruitment. Student services programs include career development, job referral services, career placement activities, administering a new tutoring program, and monitoring of academic support programs in the department. Represent the Mechanical Engineering Department and its programs to the internal/external university community, public sector, industry, and alumni. Administrative duties may also include support for other departmental responsibilities for student related guidance and services such as UTA trainings, Coop program administration, faculty-student mentoring program, student competitions, and student professional society related activity administration, among others.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent level of training or experience; previous experience in academic or career advising; advanced computer skills, particularly related to data management software; strong computer skills such as electronic file management, word processing, and spreadsheets; experience with software such as MS Office; must be detail oriented, with evidence of strong organizational and problem solving skills; must be self-motivated as well as flexible and creative in finding solutions for problems; must enjoy working with students and have a professional manner of communication; must be able to work effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and prospective students and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of university policies and procedures related to registration, class scheduling, degree and graduation requirements; knowledge of Career Service practices including recruiting and placement practices; knowledge of student support services within higher education; experience with the Banner Student system; and experience with Microsoft Access.
