Job Description

The Admissions Diversity Counselor (ADC) is a position designed to strengthen the outreach and recruitment efforts of the Department of Admissions. A successful ADC will have a strong understanding of the medical school admissions process and unique aspects of VTCSOM in order to participate in the external recruitment of qualified applicants, including those traditionally underrepresented in medicine (URM). In addition, the ADC will advise potential and current applicants about the medical school application process and resources available at the school for matriculants and will maintain contact with URM applicants who are candidates for interview, have interviewed, and have received acceptance to VTCSOM.

The ADC will maintain working relationships with historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and institutions sending URM candidates to medical professional schools. This position will provide support to participants in the Early Identification Program (EIP) during and between summer enrichment activities, including coordinating training and/or mentorship events for EIP participants. In these activities, the ADC will interface with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) personnel from the medical school.

Required Qualifications

Strong organizational skills. Enthusiasm for and acumen with verbal and written communication. Ability to work collaboratively. Willingness to travel approximately 15-20% of some portions of the admissions cycle. Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Experience in higher education. Recent experience with college or post-baccalaureate admissions processes. Knowledgeable regarding FERPA.
