Job Description

The Department of Physics at Virginia Tech seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher to work with Assistant Professor Chris Ashall in the area of time domain astronomy and supernovae. The position will be to perform observational duties, analyze data, and produce publications of supernovae in their infant stages. The primary course of data for this position will be from the Precision Observation of Supernova Explosions (POISE) project (the followup program to the Carnegie Supernova Project). The postdoctoral associate will be also be encouraged to pursue their own research lines within this area of astronomy. As a member of the group postdoctoral researcher will have access to JWST data as well as to data from many international collaborations including the extended Public ESO Spectroscopic Survey of Transient Objects (ePESSTO+), Global Supernova Project (GSP), and the Electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources at the Very Large Telescope (ENGRAVE).

Required Qualifications

- PhD in Physics or related field. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Experience with UV, optical, and NIR observations, and experience in radiation transport models.
