The Event and Administrative Assistant (EAA) is supervised by the Assistant Director of the Virginia Tech Richmond Center. The EAA position will work as part of a team to prepare and execute events and programs, provide excellent front-line reception and customer service, and assist internal and external partners with administrative and program support. The EAA work will include day/evening/weekend shifts with occasional staff meetings and trainings. The EAA work schedule will vary and has the potential to include consistent evening and weekend work depending on center activities. Scheduled hours may increase or decrease based on seasonal needs. Due to the nature of this position, the Event and Administrative Assistant will be required to bend, stand for at least 4 hours, push, pull, lift, carry and move items up to 40 pounds or more.
Previous customer service experience
Proficiency with use and operation of standard office equipment and computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
Must be a team player.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Flexibility and the ability to quickly and smoothly handle unanticipated changes and needs.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to lift or push up to 40 pounds.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations as well as demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy.
Experience with audio/visual equipment such as laptops, projectors and microphones.
Knowledge of Canvas or Learning Management Systems.
Working knowledge of supporting events.
Knowledge of state/university policies and procedures
$15-$17/hour, commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
