A full-time Research Assistant is being sought to support multiple projects in the lab of Dr. Rob Gourdie at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. Research in the Gourdie lab focuses on the role of connexins in the injury response - including those resulting from heart attack (myocardial infarction) and radiation injury. Specifically, current projects examine targeting of injured cells and tissues using connexin targeting therapeutics via exosome-based drug delivery devices. Research Assistants are a critical part of the scientific team and are responsible for technical assistance with experiments on cultured cells and animal models, data processing and management, ordering of lab supplies and equipment, and maintenance of equipment and work areas. A successful team member will be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized with strong communication skills.
• BA/BS degree in biology or related field.
• Prior research experience is preferred, but not required.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and team skills.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
