Job Description

The Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering is seeking a self motivated professional to serve as Undergraduate Academic Advisor. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor position will provide academic advising services to undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Aerospace and/or Ocean Engineering by communicating with students to deliver individualized and accurate information pertaining to progress toward completion of undergraduate degree. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor will serve a critical department role of handling various student outreach events and recruiting students to meet the department's robust mission for diversity. The position will also be responsible for assisting with updates to the course timetable and maintaining updates to the undergraduate advising section of the departmental website.

Required Qualifications

Undergraduate academic support experience. Strong interpersonal, time management, planning and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills to explain academic policies and procedures to diverse constituents, including students, faculty and staff. Computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and internet applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic advising experience and knowledge of undergraduate academic policies and procedures. Knowledge of Virginia Tech undergraduate academic policies. Experience with large relational databases such as Banner.
