Job Description

The School of Plant and Environmental Sciences (SPES) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Virginia Tech is seeking to fill a part-time (approximately 16 hours per week) position located in Blacksburg, VA. The incumbent will report to the Associate Director for Graduate Programs and will have the responsibility of assisting with graduate student paperwork and records logistics.

The incumbent will be responsible for registering students for SPES research and independent studies; compiling annual reviews and sending the reviews to the graduate school; working with students and faculty on submission and returns of plans of study, and answering questions about courses on plans of study; compiling a report of completed plans of study that had CSES/HORT/PPWS research courses and submit to the graduate school for changes; update committee member forms and provide notifications to students; adding/removing graduating and incoming students from listserv/canvas; verifying graduate students have 12 credit hours; updating forms in canvas; copying student transcripts for scholarship recipient selection; follow up on faculty committee service approval request forms; and schedule exams and answer questions related to exam schedules.

Required Qualifications

Experience and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office; Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills; strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines; ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in Virginia Tech Canvas and knowledge of VT policies and procedures.
