GlycoMIP is a National Science Foundation Materials Innovation Platform (MIP) that operates a national user facility, conducts research, and offers education and outreach programs designed to advance the science of glycomaterials and train the next generation of glycomaterials scientists. The GlycoMIP user program operates facilities at Virginia Tech and the University of Georgia, offering glycan synthesis, characterization and modeling services to users throughout the world. 

Job Description

The GlycoMIP User and Outreach Coordinator will (1) develop and implement a GlycoMIP Communications Plan that highlights, promotes and markets the capabilities of the MIP, (2) drive the recruitment of a diverse community of external users to the GlycoMIP platform through remote and in- person marketing activities, (3) work with GlycoMIP leadership team members and staff to plan and organize effective education and outreach activities, including GlycoMIP “Summer Schools”, and (4) highlight key achievement and metrics related to GlycoMIP’s user program and outreach activities for use in marketing and reporting.
The User and Outreach Coordinator will report to the GlycoMIP Managing Director, and work closely with Program Coordinators at VT and UGA. This position will be required to communicate effectively with prospective, current and former users of MIP facilities and resources. A motivated team-player, the User and Outreach Coordinator will successfully work with internal participants as well as external clients in support of GlycoMIP’s user program and education and outreach goals. Periodic travel will be required.

Required Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Chemistry or related field (or M.S. degree in Chemistry or related field with relevant work experience)
• Knowledge of carbohydrate or glycomaterials science
• Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
• Proven experience effectively communicating scientific content to the research community
• Ability to maintain and grow social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
• Project management experience (formal or informal)
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 25%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with glycomaterials and their synthesis and/or characterization

$55,000-$62,000 depending on qualifications
