The Environmental, Health, and Safety Technician (EH&S Tech) is an entry-level position in the Student Affairs Facilities and Operations department. This position will report directly to the Assistant Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality. This position is primarily responsible for pest control, fire and life safety, and industrial hygiene for on-campus residence halls, dining venues, and offices. The primary responsibilities of this position include sampling of asbestos and lead, inspecting fire extinguishers, exit lights, emergency lights, conducting building walkthroughs for fire code violations, conducting mold surveys and remediation, and performing pest control inspections and treatment. The position combines on-the job experience as well as a three-year training program where the successful candidate will become a Commercial Pesticide Applicator, licensed asbestos inspector, and licensed lead inspector/risk assessor. For the first three years of this program, the position is considered restricted meaning that job performance and training milestones must be met to continue. Upon successfully completing the training program, the employee will be changed from restricted to a regular staff position. Annual salary adjustments for the first three years are based on successful progress. Candidates for the position should desire to engage and complete the required training program and seek to achieve certification/licensure as a Commercial Pesticide Applicator, Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, Asbestos Inspector, and Mold Remediation Specialist.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to take classes online and complete specified course work, independently and on schedule.
Ability to successfully complete training program and receive certifications.
Must maintain and meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship Program Agreement.
Previous experience and license for pest control.
Previous commercial carpet and flooring care.
Previous experience responding to emergency maintenance situations.
Previous experience with fire safety and inspections.
Previous experience with mold, asbestos, and lead inspections or remediation.
Salary starting at $36,000. Will increase with completion of training levels.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as a driving check with a safe driving record.
