The Research Administrator will provide financial and administrative support for sponsored research projects (pre- and post-award) within the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM). The successful candidate, working in close coordination with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), will support faculty during the proposal submission process. The candidate will actively assist faculty with budgets, proposal planning and submission, and post-award administration, following policies and procedures articulated by OSP. This position will dual report to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration along with the Associate Dean of Research to assist with the research administration duties of the school as needed, collaborating with other members of the finance and research teams regularly. The Grants Administrator is an essential team member who is energetic in researching issues and gathering information to solve problems, balancing an accurate understanding of policies and procedures with sound judgment, creativity, and flexibility. The candidate will be able to work independently and cooperatively with little supervision while maintaining confidentiality and policy compliance.
The candidate will produce work that is accurate, timely, concise, and well-organized. This position works collaboratively with faculty members to provide them with information and tools that help effectively manage research projects throughout the project lifecycle. Helping new faculty members navigate different internal and external processes related to proposal submission and sponsored project administration is an important activity for this position.
Tasks will include, but are not limited to proposal assistance, solicitation review, budget preparation, cost volume development, compliance checking, and systems management within a challenging and diverse environment.
* Bachelor's degree in business administration or related fields, equivalent training, experience, or certification.
* Work experience providing fiscal support, budgeting, and reporting.
* Familiarity with the overall process of sponsored research proposals, awards, and grant/contract administration.
* Demonstrated experience in prioritizing tasks, applying policies and procedures, and meeting deadlines.
* Business computer proficiency, especially with office-based software applications, and ability to adapt quickly to new software tools.
* Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, but within a team environment and with a strong commitment to customer service
* Experience in an academic or research environment
* Master's degree
* Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
*Experience with federally funded research programs
Range starting at $58,000 to $67,000 (based on experience)
