Job Description

The Laboratory Research Specialist is expected to have proficiency in molecular biology and recombinant DNA techniques, as well as rodent animal models and husbandry. Must have exceptional organizational skills, including, IACUC and IBC compliance records, breeding and genotyping multiple lines of rodent animals models, equipment and supplies, and laboratory records and data archiving. The Laboratory Research Specialist is expected, with guidance and support from their supervisor, to assist in development of new methods and technologies for project advancement, as well as assist with ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent relevant experience; Experience in husbandry and genotyping of research animals, particularly rodents; Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a scientific field and relevant work experience in a research laboratory; Preparation and submission of IBC and IACUC protocols and HokieMart.
