Job Description

The Parking Enforcement Supervisor oversees the Parking Enforcement Officer team and performs a variety of tasks to ensure University parking rules, regulations and department policies are followed and enforced. Reporting to the Manager of Parking Services, the Supervisor is an integral member of the parking enforcement team, working with parking enforcement officers in the field by providing guidance while leading by example. The Parking Enforcement Supervisor ensures team members are well-trained and properly equipped to carry out their daily tasks with a high level of customer service. Duties also include administrative tasks such as scheduling variable work shifts, facilitating briefings, making zone assignments, and supporting other units within the department to address special projects, event parking, and customer service.

In addition, the incumbent will perform other duties as requested by supervisor, take initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and perform work aligned with the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

• Customer service experience with a proven ability to work with diverse customers.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong conflict resolution and active listening skills
• Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and professionally.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and generating reports.
• Ability to use a handheld device and printer without supervision.
• Must possess a current valid driver's license with no restrictions.
• Ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle and/or a bicycle.
• Ability to move and handle up to 50 lbs. or more.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Availability to report to work during inclement weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Virginia Tech campus.
• Previous security, parking enforcement, or related experience.
• Knowledge of university parking rules and regulations.
• Data entry experience.
• Experience using a two-way radio.
• Experience scheduling and communicating work assignments.
• Experience working in a higher education environment.

Anticipated starting salary is between $50,000 and $55,000

JOB DUTIES
Training (30%)
Conducts parking enforcement operational training as it pertains to onboarding, learning the duties of the position, and the use of parking technology such as the Smart Phone ticket writer, License Plate Recognition (LPR) Vehicle, parking patrol protocols, application of vehicle immobilization devices, and radio communications procedures. Applies sound judgment and discretion in applying knowledge of parking regulations and trains parking enforcement officers to do the same.

Scheduling (20%)
Plans, organizes, and dispatches daily enforcement schedules, work assignments, and work zone assignments of the parking enforcement specialist team. Communicates and disseminates departmental and University information updates and events.

Special Projects (30%)
Supervises annual, bi- annual, and special request parking space inventory/surveys, space utilization counts in surface lots and parking structures. Prepares data collections sheets, assign zone/lot/garage coverage, and personnel schedule. Provides enforcement operational reports upon request to the Parking Manager.

Parking Enforcement (20%) Participates in daily parking enforcement, works in tandem in assisting officers in lot and zone coverage ensuring coverage of all lots on campus is achieved weekly. Documents and reports enforcement effectiveness, efficiencies, personnel performance and other field observations, such as parking problems/challenges, surface and structure parking traffic mobility, flow and parking space inventory availability.
