Job Description

The Office for Inclusion and Diversity (OID) is a catalyst for capacity-building across the institution, promoting sustainable institutional transformation and accountability; representational diversity; an inclusive, welcoming, affirming, accessible, and safe campus climate; and the integration of issues of equity and identity into the academic mission. Upholding InclusiveVT, the institutional and individual commitment to the Virginia Tech motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), the office seeks to create a more just and inclusive community that welcomes, encourages, and supports individuals who desire to contribute to and benefit from the institution's missions of learning, discovery, and engagement.
Reporting to the senior associate vice provost for inclusion and diversity, the director of the Ujima living-learning community encourages student belonging and inclusion through active and individualized care, mentoring, and support. The person in this role is student centered, collaborative, and intentional in their role as educator.
The position is based at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree with experience that equates to a master's level degree
· Considerable experience with diversity and inclusion related work
· Demonstrated ability to build and connect communities
· Experience contributing to inclusive workplace relationships
· Ability to collaborate in diverse teams to foster productive outcomes
· Ability to manage multiple social media platforms for the purpose of engaging and retaining students
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree in student affairs or related field
· Experience facilitating small and large group discussions
· Proven ability to implement identity development theories across various marginalized groups
· Experience working in a higher education setting
