Job Description

This position supports all student and non-student entry level hiring within Dining Services. recruitment strategies to increase engagement with potential employees. Oversees student and non-student recruitment strategies to increase engagement with potential employees. It also independently interprets, advises and applies personnel policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and university policies and procedures regarding hiring and paperwork. Oversees the Staffing and Onboarding Specialist and the Hiring and Onboarding Specialist who are responsible for facilitating entry level salary and non-student hiring (respectively) and onboarding within Dining Services.

We’re currently searching for a Dining Services Hiring Manager to join our Dining Services Administration team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you’re experienced in managing the hiring process and great with analyzing data, please keep reading.
Here’s what you need to know about the role:
1)     You’ll be joining the Dining Services hiring team; a department centered on hiring students, non-student wage, and salary entry level positions within Dining Services. Additionally, it partners with contacts within the department to coordinate hiring issues such as talent acquisition, interviewing, onboarding, compliance, and efficient administration.
2)     You’ll be reporting to the Assistant Director of Operations Development, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% staff appointment.
3)     You’ll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
4)     You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $50,000-$55,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Hotel, Restaurant, Institutional Management, Public Relations, Business Management, and/or equivalent training and experience that demonstrates a full and broad understanding of the legal, operational, and strategic Human Resource issues in the workplace.
• Working knowledge of human resource management principles and practices to include staffing, recruitment, screening, interviewing, onboarding, and employment, practice and policy interpretation.
• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands.
• Ability to research and prepare analysis and data summary reports.
• Able to produce accurate and auditable records.
• Able to monitor compliance issues, with working knowledge of FLSA, I-9 administration, and hiring practices.
• Experience with online applicant tracking systems and human resource information systems.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner; interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment; remain calm and polite in stressful situations; exercise excellent judgment, discretion, and initiative.
• Experience using computers including programs and software such as Windows, Microsoft Office and Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Internet search engines for research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in developing and writing position descriptions, job advertisements, and recruitment plans.
• Experience with large relational databases (e.g. Banner).
• Knowledge of university and/or state hiring practices, including visa classifications in relation to employment at Virginia Tech.
• Working knowledge of Virginia Tech Dining Services.
• Experience with online learning environments or LMS.
• Working knowledge of Virginia Tech or state human resources policies and procedures.
