The Public Safety Division has a critical role in supporting the well-being of our community. They are essential in planning for and responding to emergency events, but also in creating a culture of preparedness where employees and students are safe in their work and living environments.

The Human Resources Coordinator provides support for all aspects of the human resources function and has primary responsibility for all HR transactions related to both the Auxiliary & Business Services (ABS) and the Public Safety (PS) Divisions. Reporting to, and in close coordination with, the ABS Sr. HR Manager, the HR Coordinator is responsible for initiating and processing all HR transactions, serves as the primary administrator for recruitments in the assigned divisions, coordinates all onboarding procedures, maintains all personnel files, and support HR project work. The incumbent also provides information about Human Resource policy and procedures and performs other duties as needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of the Human Resources function.

In addition, the HR Coordinator performs other duties as requested by supervisor, takes initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and support the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Experience
• Providing human resources admin support and/or knowledge of HR principles and best practices.
• Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Experience working with and maintaining confidential and sensitive information.

Skills & Abilities
• Strong attention to detail is essential.
• Able to dependably follow through on assigned tasks.
• Excellent communication skills to include a patient and friendly demeanor.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and web applications.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with a self-motivated work ethic.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative and supportive team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related area of study.
• Related HR certifications.
• Work experience in a higher education environment.
• Experience using an HR Information System (e.g. Banner, Work Day, etc.).
• Experience analyzing data and generating reports in MS Excel.

Additional Information

Work Location is fully on-site for at least the first 6 months, followed by a hybrid schedule on-campus at least 3 days per week. There are no relocation funds available for this position. 

The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal conviction check and may be required to successfully complete extended background check in order to gain access to and support VT Police personnel records.
