The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in the School of Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice. The CTE program currently serves undergraduate and graduate students who earn degrees in education leading to grades 6-12 licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia Tech is the state's largest residential university, with more than 36,000 students. The more than 40 faculty colleagues in the School of Education currently offer 14 different graduate degrees to more than 600 students. Building on the university motto Ut Prosim (that I may serve) and Inclusive VT, the School is committed to serving in the spirit of diversity and equity.
Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in CTE on the Blacksburg campus. The position is a non-tenure-track, academic year (three courses per semester) appointment with possible opportunities for summer session employment. The start date is August 10, 2025.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the position require the assistant/associate professor of practice to offer courses in an area(s) of expertise and/or areas of program need. Additional responsibilities include advising secondary CTE students, supervising the portfolio process, preparing accreditation and assessment reports, and other program responsibilities as needed. Service to the School of Education and the college is also expected. Although faculty members who are professors of practice may conduct research, there are no expectations for an extensive research program as is typical of tenure-track faculty appointments. There may be occasional travel to attend professional conferences. A criminal background check is required of all candidates recommended for employment.
