The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute’s site located on the Children’s National Research & Innovation (CNRI) Campus in Washington, DC, is seeking a Research Associate/ Lab Manager to provide general laboratory operations oversight, laboratory organization, and technical assistance for wet lab-based research teams. The position will be a shared resource for several principal investigator-led teams and will be responsible for the following:
Environmental Health and Safety compliance;
Preparing and maintaining common protocols including IACUC and IBC;
Assisting Primary Faculty with maintenance of federal licenses such as DEA.
Overseeing comprehensive lab operations such as ordering common equipment, reagents and lab supplies, managing use and maintenance of shared equipment.
The position will act as point of contact for investigators, trainees, and research staff approved to work in the lab, ensuring that all research staff have adequate training to function appropriately and safely in the lab.
The position will provide instruction, guidance and expertise to lab members in the use of common equipment and in the execution of common procedures and methods such as preparing buffers and solutions.
• M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field. (A bachelor's degree may be considered with significant years of experience).
• Significant previous experience in a biomedical research laboratory.
• Laboratory technical skills
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and be detail oriented.
• Demonstrated proficiency with office software packages such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation.
• Ability to generate and utilize computer databases.
• Must be able to sit or stand at a lab bench for extended periods of time.
• Experience working in a wet lab.
• Demonstrated ability and desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple concurrent duties
• Familiarity with tissue culture, western blots, or protein purification is a plus but is not required
