The Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech is seeking a Geospatial Analyst. The successful applicant will support the management, development, and distribution of geospatial data to a variety of used groups at Fort Walker. The position will require the development of geospatial data sets based upon digital data, field data, GPS data, satellite images, digital ortho-photography, manual digitizing, and modification of existing GIS layers. In addition, the position will be required to analyze digital data in order to produce cartographic output, geo-databases, reports, and other applications to support military training and natural resource management decisions and will produce metadata and insure current and future geospatial data meet SDSFIE Standards. The position will also require GPS data be collected in the field for use and development of geospatial datasets and accurately collect other field data to support the development of geospatial data sets.
1). A B.S. in Geography, Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Science or related field with emphasis on geospatial analysis.
2). Ability to create and analyze a variety of geospatial datasets from aerial photography, SPOT, Landsat, LiDAR and other remote sensing platforms.
3). Demonstrated ability to create cartographic products for use in reports, presentations, and other communications.
4). Demonstrated experience with Global Positioning Systems and ESRI based GIS software
5). Experience in collecting and utilizing field and other data to support the development of geospatial datasets.
6). Must be willing to work in adverse weather and field conditions. Valid Drivers License required.
Experience working on military installations a plus.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
55,000-65,000 depending upon education and experience.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
