Job Description

The Soil, Health and Nutrient Laboratory in the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate interested in sustainable agriculture. The successful candidate will work with the Environmental Soil Science Group at Virginia Tech to evaluate the impacts of soil amendments and other conservation practices on overall soil health and greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to opportunities to develop research projects in soil carbon and nutrient cycling, plant soil interactions, rhizosphere ecology, precision nutrient management, etc. Additional duties include data management and analysis, manuscript writing, proposal development, and supervision of graduate students and undergraduate technicians. The initial appointment is one-year with possibility for renewal for up to two-year appointment based on satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Crop and Soil Sciences, Soil Microbiology, Soil Ecology or closely related field awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of the appointment with a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining; Academic record of excellence with peer reviewed journal publications

Preferred Qualifications

Candidate with experience in studying soil amendments, nutrient use efficiency, and microbial drivers of greenhouse gas emissions in agroecosystems.
