Job Description

A postdoctoral associate position in the area of organoid design and engineering is available in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA, USA). The post-doctoral associate will be responsible for developing novel techniques for designing organoids and analyzing their properties using biochemical and molecular biology techniques. The post-doctoral associate will also be responsible for data management and dissemination of scientific results.

The primary focus of the post-doctoral associate will be to assemble organoids using a combination of new biomaterials and stem-cell based methodologies. Research projects will involve the use of organoids in virology and to conduct high throughput testing of therapies.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary team at the NSF COMPASS Center, which integrates tissue engineering, stem cells, materials, virology, computational biology, machine learning, molecular environmental engineering, science communication, community engagement, and ethics. The associate will have opportunities to collaborate with virologists, drug designers, and computational biologists. Required Qualifications

PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related field. The PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.

• Strong background and knowledge in tissue engineering and organoid development.
• Strong background and knowledge in biomaterial design, cell-based methodologies and biochemical measurements.
• Strong track record in scientific productivity and publications
• Experience and background in managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with induced pluripotent stem cells
• Prior experience in multi-disciplinary projects
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with investigators in other disciplines
