Job Description

The research group led by Professor Hongliang Xin (xingroup.org) at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing computational materials science by developing and applying first-principles and machine learning methods, with a focus on interatomic potential development and large-scale molecular dynamics simulations. This position emphasizes research in the modeling of complex chemical systems, where the candidate will integrate advanced simulation techniques with modern machine learning approaches to investigate reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and material behavior.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. The PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Possess a strong expertise in molecular dynamics simulations, as well as experience with
machine learning interatomic potentials.
- Possess a robust understanding of chemical kinetics and thermodynamics, and be proficient in data science techniques to analyze large-scale simulation data effectively.
- Ability to conduct independent research while collaborating successfully in a multidisciplinary team, with a record of scholarly publications that reflects excellence in the field.
