Job Description

Director, Regimental Band of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets (Highty-Tighties)

The Director serves in a 9-month academic year appointment as a member of the Department of Military Affairs, Corps of Cadets, within the Division of Student Affairs. The primary responsibility is to act as the Assistant Commandant of the Cadets for the Regimental Band. The Director reports to the Commandant of the Corps regarding administrative functions, rehearsal and performance scheduling, and ceremonial routines. If the individual hired is an enlisted bandsman, they may be eligible to wear the rank of an officer in the Virginia Militia. Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate.

Some of the Director's responsibilities are:

- Provide musical and administrative leadership to the Regimental Band as a military marching and ceremonial band throughout the academic year.
- Provide individual music instruction to Regimental Band members as appropriate.
- Provide faculty supervision to the Regimental Band Cadet Officers in all administrative areas, including budgetary and performance planning.
- Be present at all Regimental Band performances as a university representative and faculty member.
- Supervise the maintenance, repair, and replacement of instruments and equipment as necessary.
- Conduct an active recruiting program for cadet band members.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of the Highty-Tighties Alumni Executive Board.
- Serve as head of the Highty-Tighties Alumni Scholarship Committee.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Retired military bandsman, E8 or above.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading military music ensembles.
Specialist in tuba and/or euphonium.
Master’s degree or comparable professional experience in the music field.
