Reporting to the Human Resources Director in the Division of Information Technology (IT), the Human Resources Coordinator serves as part of a team to provide human resources programs, services and support to employees of the Division of IT.
This position will contribute to the HR team by providing general office duties, transactional support, and records management. In addition, the HR Coordinator will be expected to provide guidance and support to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and university policies and procedures. Role requires handling sensitive/confidential information with discretion, as well as demonstrating a strong communication acumen.
This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with time in the office and remote each week after the onboarding period.
● Bachelor's degree in human resources or other business-related field, OR a combination of education, training, and experience that equates to a bachelor’s degree.
● Working experience that demonstrates an understanding of at least one of the following HR programs: recruitment and selection, job analysis, classification and compensation, and employee relations.
● Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
● Exceptional organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.
● Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner; interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment; remain calm and polite in stressful situations; exercise excellent judgment, discretion and initiative.
● Able to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands.
● Experience using online applicant tracking systems and/or human resource information systems.
● Knowledge of Virginia Tech or state human resources policies and procedures.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
