Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Physics at Virginia Tech. The successful applicant will provide student support and serve as the recruiter for the Physics undergraduate program. Student support responsibilities include enrollment management and projections, event planning for student recognition events, coordination of textbook orders, managing the student scholarships and awards process, and cultivating and informing students of internship and future career opportunities.

Recruiting responsibilities include regularly contacting prospective students and high school and community college teachers, coordinating student and family visits to campus, running the Department’s periodic on-campus visit days, serving as the Department’s representative at university recruiting events, and ordering promotional recruitment materials.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team with the Department’s undergraduate academic advisor and graduate program coordinator to provide the best possible experience for the Department’s students. Occasional travel may be required for recruiting trips to schools and national conferences.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and/or equivalent training and experience.
• Excellent communication, organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and set work priorities.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality by following FERPA, university, and department guidelines.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and prospective students and their families.
• Positive and effective teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Employment experience in an academic unit, including previous work in areas of academic student services, recruiting, and curriculum processes.
