The Administrative/Building Assistant serves as the first point of contact for visitors, students and professors in the Life Sciences 1 building. The selected candidate must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to work in a highly professional manner with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors, and must be able to interpret policies, make independent decisions and work effectively with individuals from all levels within the university. This position also receives and distributes mail and packages, processes FedEx shipments, handles key management and card access, conference room reservations, tracking and ordering supplies, and assists with event planning. The Administrative/Building Assistant serves as the Building Emergency Coordinator and should have an understanding of the fundamentals of emergency management.
Administrative support and customer service experience in an academic or professional office setting.
Experience with office equipment such as copier, fax, phone, and scanner.
Strong computer skills such as data entry, word processing and email.
Experience with software such as Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Ability to safely, frequently, and independently move and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Experience with biowaste autoclaving.
Experience with eye wash and emergency shower testing.
Experience analyzing and interpreting university policies and procedures.
Experience with large relational databases such as Hokiemart.
Experience with overlooking service contracts and repairs.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
