Job Summary:

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Assistant Director of Nursing, Nursing Informatics. 

Nursing informatics plays a vital role in leveraging technology and data to transform health care delivery, enhance patient outcomes, and advance the nursing profession. This nursing role bridges nursing staff, and providers. Nursing informatics improves data handling, it makes it easier for nurses to provide quality patient care more efficiently and effectively.

The scope of services provided by Nursing Education/Institute of Continuous Learning include the following:

  • Collaborate with IT to develop and implement computer-based initiatives organization-wide
  • Nursing Orientation & Computer Training (including EHR)
  • Nursing Assistive Staff Orientation & Computer Training (Including EHR)
  • EHR System review to assess adequacy of nursing documentation platform unit-based lnservice Education
  • Nursing Staff (Competency Management - initial and ongoing)
  • Ongoing Professional Development
  • Nurse Residency Program
  • Regulatory Preparedness
  • Staff Engagement
  • Annual Mandatory Education
  • Communication of New Policies and Procedures
  • Consultant on IT and nursing informatics initiatives

Main roles and responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Nursing Informatics will also include, but not limited to the following:

  • Assist with development of and implementation of strategies and tactics for UHD's Nursing Informatics initiatives
  • Maintain knowledge of the trends, developments, and best practices in Nursing Informatics
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key hospital-based leaders to identify opportunities for improving nursing care through technology
  • Further the competencies and education of nurses in the use of information technology to support nursing practice and patient care
  • Champion improvements in patient care across all disciplines
  • Advance the mission, vision and values of the UHD IT and Nursing Services Department
  • Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements
  • Other responsibilities within nursing informatics as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree
  • New York State Registered Nurse License
  • 5+ years of post-license experience to include 3-years in specialty and 2-years management/supervisor experience
  • Experience with EHR
  • Patient-focused and empathic
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, dynamic, creative and able to work with own initiative

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-5

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
