Staff holding a cook position primarily work in student dining providing approximately 5000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the college who dine in Commons. They are also called upon to prepare items for catered events as needed.
As such, this position calls for someone who is able to safely, efficiently and consistently produce and present food in a high volume setting. A focus on providing outstanding customer service and exemplary organizational and time management skills are a must.
This position may be considered “Essential Personnel” in the event that:
An emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates.
Inclement weather forces the closing of campus.
Or other emergency events deemed appropriate. |

The Commons Associate - Sanitation position provides front line dish room and janitorial support for the Bates dining program which serves approximately 5,000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff, and guests of the college. This position is responsible for following food safety and sanitation procedures as well as demonstrating positive relationships with individuals and groups with varying backgrounds, perspectives, education and skills. |

The Senior Writer and Editor serves as managing editor for Bates Magazine, and provides leadership and expertise in strategic storytelling. This highly skilled writer and editor will have deep experience and will collaborate with the Senior Communications and Editorial Director to develop a fresh tone for BCM’s writing in all formats and styles (print and digital, persuasive and journalistic). The Senior Writer and Editor, in collaboration with the Senior Communications Director, will ensure that all written content aligns with institutional priorities while maintaining the highest editorial standards and cultivating a commitment to creativity and innovation. |
