The Massachusetts Trial Court (MTC) is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Clerk Magistrate in the Springfield District Court. As an Assistant Clerk Magistrate, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Clerk-Magistrate in performing both magisterial and administrative duties. Your magisterial responsibilities will include determining probable cause for issuing criminal complaints and search warrants, conducting bail determinations, presiding over preliminary probation violation hearings, adjudicating small claims motions and trials, and overseeing civil and criminal motor vehicle hearings. In addition, you will have the authority to decide certain non-dispositive motions in civil and criminal cases, enter defaults and default judgments, and handle other civil processes. Your administrative duties will encompass preparing and maintaining court papers and records, ensuring cases move smoothly and efficiently toward a timely resolution. Working under the guidance of the Clerk-Magistrate or First Assistant Clerk-Magistrate, you will exercise supervision over support personnel within the Clerk-Magistrate's Office, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
