Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) is seeking Director of Certification to provide leadership, management, and direction to the Small, Women-owned and Minority-owned Business (SWaM) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Certification Programs.

The Director of Certification will have direct oversight of the state SWaM and Federal DBE certification programs as delegated by the federal government. Duties include serving as senior advisor and subject matter expert to agency leadership on matters related to SWaM and DBE certification; developing and implementing strategic objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure achievement of agency mission and certification goals; and monitoring overall certification program performance. Duties also include management of staff assigned to supervise and perform work associated with certification programs, providing data and reports related to certification performance and statistics, and acting as an agency spokesperson to present information related to SWaM and DBE certification.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of business certification programs, to include small, women-owned, and minority-owned (SWaM) businesses and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE); Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; Strong leadership and program management skills; Demonstrated ability to work well with internal staff as well as external customers. Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form; Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently; Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

This position is ineligible for telework.

Additional Considerations

Excellent public speaking and presentation skills. Experience working with small businesses.
