Job Duties
The Administrative Section of the Department of Forensic Science’s Western Laboratory seeks an individual to provide routine to moderately complex clerical and administrative support for approximately 50 scientific and technical staff. Responsibilities include accurate and timely preparation and provision of reports of various types; computer data entry of case information; maintenance of administrative files and supplies, processing of administrative documents, (e.g., requisition forms, invoices), distribution of mail and phone messages, and other administrative functions.
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience working in an administrative office, to include delivering a full range of administrative services:
- Responding to and directing business related telephone calls to the appropriate person
- Formatting, typing and word processing of documents
- Distributing and processing mail and routing official documents
- Copying and faxing
- Setting up and maintaining files
- Greeting visitors
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Ability to prepare, format and proofread documents
• Ability to coordinate and execute office functions independently with little supervision required
• Ability to maintain effective and congenial working relationships with a variety of people in a team-based environment.
Additional Considerations
• Work experience with eVA (the Commonwealth’s electronic procurement system)
• Work experience with high volume data entry and filing
• Work experience using Ideagen document management system
• Work experience using a computerized tracking system for storage and retrieval of information or data

Special Requirements
Economic Interest Statement: The selected candidate is required to file a Statement of Economic Interests form pursuant to the Code of Virginia § 2.2-3114, as a condition of employment. Additionally, the statement is to be filed annually by February 1. The selected candidate is required to complete the Statement of Economic Interest training within 60 days of employment and every two years thereafter.
