Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Education, Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs (VDOE-SCNP), is seeking a part-time qualified and experienced individual to assist with managing the Office’s social media platforms, communications, and website. Duties include, but are not limited to, being responsible for VDOE-SCNP social marketing, drafting promotional content and communications including the Office’s quarterly newsletter, and website content management and updates.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of public relations/communications techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of desktop publishing, website development and maintenance, database programs, and social media.
• Basic knowledge of school and community nutrition programs and the federal and state laws governing them.
• Knowledge of state agency function, school administration, state and local government procedures and policies.
• Excellent skills in written and oral communication. Organizational management and communication skills.
• Computer skills in data base management, spreadsheet applications, word processing, presentation software, internet, and web-based systems.
• Skills in photography techniques, photo editing, videoing, social media platforms.
• Ability to manage and monitor social media platforms, campaigns, and analytics.
• Ability to manage websites and create web content.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively and competently manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.
• Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals from a wide range of organizations and establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.

Additional Considerations

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; major in nutrition, food service, public health, education, marketing, or related field preferred.

The position you are applying for is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours the wage employment year (5/1 - 4/30). This position does not include health insurance, retirement or paid leave benefits.
