Welcome to the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI's) primary focus is to assist blind Virginians in achieving quality employment outcomes. Vocational evaluation, job training, job development, placement, follow-up, and other services are provided to assist consumers in obtaining jobs in the public and private sectors.

Job Duties:

DBVI is seeking a Security Officer to exhibit high levels of alertness, engagement, and professionalism, while serving as a security officer on the Azalea Campus.


Purpose of the position:

  • Maintains a safe and welcoming environment by monitoring and securing the premises, controlling access of visitors, staff, and vehicles, and ensuring professional security coverage.
  • Provides support to Security Coordinator by conducting drills, completing safety inspections, and responding to security incidents. 
  • Safeguards and protects people and property.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge/Experience:


• Work experience in a security related field is required.
• Applicants must meet and maintain DCJS requirements.
• Possess and maintains a valid Virginia driver's license.
• Possess and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Possess OSHA 10 or 30 Certificate or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • A demonstrated ability to be responsive, approachable, and provide courteous engagement. 
  • The ability to maintain a calm, balanced perspective, and successfully complete duties in a stressful situation. 
  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of environments including outdoors. 
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to accurately write reports. 
  • Demonstrate procedure and provide directions. 
  • The ability to appropriately apply safety principles, evaluate situations, and routinely make decisions under varying and often rapidly evolving situations.
  • Knowledge of safety and security principles, practices, and equipment. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety and security policy and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Knowledge of records management procedures sufficient to prepare and maintain accurate records for the purpose of mandated retention, investigations, evidence, confidentiality, and court testimony. 
  • Ability to learn and effectively use security related software and equipment. 
  • Must be able to cover various shifts when necessary.

Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.
