The Department of Criminal Justice Services is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a part-time (wage) Criminal History Specialist in Richmond, Virginia. What you will do:
● Review criminal history records according to established guidelines.
● Request and review conviction information.
● Conduct research through public information databases.
● Process appeal requests and denials of applications due to criminal history
● Prepare case files.
● Utilize fingerprint reports to update records in the Department’s database.
● Prepare and send notices to applicants, respond to customer inquiries, and update on-line applications to satisfy outstanding requirements and issue credentials.     

Minimum Qualifications

What the ideal candidate must possess:

● Ability to adhere to and maintain policies and procedures, and customer service principles and practices.
● Experience entering data into a computer system, quickly, efficiently, and correctly.
● Demonstrates sound organization skills, the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
● Experienced in the proficient use of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
● Ability to problem solve, analyze data, and research paperwork as needed to ensure quality service.
● Prior experience in a busy office environment.
● Experience sorting and processing mail and other correspondence.

Additional Considerations

● Preferred experience with a regulatory process and fingerprint based criminal records research.
● Administrative Investigative experience.
● Experience with high volume duties utilizing customer service knowledge, skills and abilities.
● Knowledge of various office systems and machines and computer software packages such as Microsoft word, etc.      

Special Instructions

Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work. The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and complete and submit a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization. The individual may also be responsible for submitting an annual Statement of Personal Economic Interest. The anticipated starting salary range is $28.00 to $30.00 per hour, up to 29 hours per week (1500 hours per wage year).
