About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior in our Division No. 6, Area No. 40 Office in Salem, Virginia. The successful candidate will provide administrative and secretarial support to the area First Sergeant, Sergeants, and Troopers in the area; coordinate office operations by overseeing daily office functions, handling in person and telephone inquiries, and independently preparing reports, typing correspondence, forms, and other related documentation to support efficiency of the Department; enter, research, and retrieve data from various computer programs; maintain administrative and personnel files in accordance with policies; and organize and direct workflow by adjusting priorities to meet deadlines, restructuring work, and tasking subordinate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
•Working knowledge of basic office practices and procedures; of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling; of filing systems; and of basic math.
•Skill in typing and in the use of a personal computer, automated office equipment, and Microsoft applications.
•Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English; to interpret and follow oral and written instructions; to adhere to Department policies and procedures; to work independently; and to interact with the area First Sergeant, Sergeants, Troopers, general public, and others contacted internally and externally during the course of work.
•Experience working in an office environment.
•Experience working as a secretary required.
•Requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
