Job Duties:
The Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) public safety department is seeking to hire 3 Campus Safety Officers from this posting. The incumbent in this position will provide a secure environment for clients, staff, and visitors; perform preventive patrols and preliminary and follow-up investigations, as requested by Administration, of complaints, incidents, and policy violations; and maintain effective patrols for the security of the buildings and grounds. Respond to public requests for emergency and non-emergency services; assist with traffic direction, control, vehicle registration, and enforcement of parking regulations. The incumbent will provide emergency assistance and serve as a liaison with other emergency agencies. This position includes assisting with emergency drills, the management of the emergency notification system, and serving on safety committees. The incumbent in this position will collaborate on emergency preparedness and incident reporting, participate in emergency preparedness drills, contribute to safety planning, and document all incidents accurately through detailed reports. Coordinate with center leadership, safety teams, and external law enforcement when required, ensuring compliance with DARS policies and regulatory standards.
This position is considered essential, and you will be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles of building and personnel security; Knowledge of Centers emergency procedures; Knowledge of various disabilities and skills in working with people with disabilities; Knowledge of positive behavioral intervention strategies.
Skill in use of security equipment; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to use sound judgment and deal effectively with a diverse group of people and to effectively guide them in emergencies; Ability to meet the physical requirements of position; Ability to react appropriately and assume leadership under stressful conditions.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a valid Virginia driver’s license; successful completion of the Special Conservator of the Peace program as required by DCJS within 1 year of employment. Current certification as a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or ability to obtain certification.
