The Police Officer is responsible for protecting life and property by enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the policies of Norfolk State University. The position provides proactive patrols, responds to emergencies and calls for service, conducts investigations, prepares reports, makes arrests when necessary, and works collaboratively with the campus community to promote a safe and secure learning environment. Justification Justification The Norfolk State University Police Department requests approval to hire additional Police Officers to maintain adequate staffing levels and ensure the continued safety and security of the campus community. Additional officers are needed to provide 24/7 police coverage, improve emergency response times, reduce overtime costs and officer fatigue, support community policing initiatives, and meet the increasing public safety demands associated with campus operations and special events. Approving these positions will ensure the department can continue providing effective law enforcement services while maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
