The Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Principal Scientist in the Inorganic Nonmetals/Water Micro Group for the Commonwealth's Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS). This position serves as the workgroup leader and performs high volume complex chemical testing and analysis of sediments, soils, environmental samples and drinking water. As a Principal in the Inorganic Nonmetals/Water Micro Group, job duties include, but are not limited to: • Perform and oversee highly complex inorganic testing and method development. • Provide technical leadership, troubleshooting, and project management. • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements. • Train and mentor laboratory staff to maintain competency and excellence. • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely results.

Primarily performs nutritional interviews to determine client eligibility for the WIC program. Position also requires performing income eligibility and lab duties routinely. Uses VENA techniques to assess readiness, motivation & barriers to behavioral change. Dietary goals are established & documented in care plan. Prescribes dietary food packages in accordance with WIC protocols. Helps plan and schedule nutrition coverage for WIC clinic. Monitors patient flow and clinic scheduling to meet the needs of the clients. Helps train new staff on lab protocols and procedures. Ensures security of WIC EBT cards and all other related supplies. Facilitates nutrition education classes to applicants/participants through group discussion or over the phone. Promotes breastfeeding; schedules applicants to breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding support groups; refers pregnant and breastfeeding moms to district's breastfeeding coordinator, DBE or peer counselor.
