General Function: 

Responsible for the overall coordination, direction, and supervision of all EMS Programs. Acts as a liaison between faculty, the sponsoring agency, students, the local medical community, and the Division of Emergency Medical Services. Responsible for the recruitment and continued development of faculty to meet the needs of the institution and some classroom instruction throughout the year.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s earned from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Must be licensed in Tennessee as an EMT-Paramedic, registered nurse, or physician.
  • Professional license must be free from history of revocation, denial or suspension.
  • Licensed emergency care experience shall include a minimum of three years practice.
  • Administrative experience shall include a minimum of two (2) years in EMS educational administration.
  • Current endorsement in a Board approved trauma, cardiac, and pediatric course at the provider level.
  • Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator endorsement

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master's Degree in a health-related field and all minimum qualifications listed above.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee and be responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, program evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, textbook selection, identification of resources, supervise EMS faculty/staff, maintain compliance with TBR policies, MSCC policies,  Tennessee EMS Board, maintaining CAAHEP accreditation, SACSCOC accreditation,  and general effectiveness of the program; Participate in EMS Program budget development and preparation; Coordinate clinical laboratory experience

  • Assist the Dean of Health Sciences with course scheduling, staffing for EMS courses, and credentialing instructors.
  • Develop partnerships with the industry leaders in EMS including meetings at least once a year.
  • Implement the use of emerging and mobile technologies for classroom instruction.
  • Recruit the employment of both full-time and part-time faculty
  • Ensure compliance with state-mandated performance measures and utilize data for program improvement.
  • Seek grant funding sources related to EMS.
  • Directs and coordinates academic, laboratory, and clinical experiences for the EMS program on all campus sites and review clinical contracts for EMS programs.
  • Provides advisement to potential EMS students and instruction to enrolled EMS students as needed throughout the year.
  • Facilitates state certification application process for graduates.
  • Serve on college and academic committees.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality statutes and policies as they apply to FERPA, HIPPA and Title IX status
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with students, fellow employees, college administrators, and other stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills, computer skills, to include database management, word processing, creating spreadsheets, email, and the internet
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships with prospective or current students, faculty, staff, executives, and other stakeholders
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating various policy and emergency medical related issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of accreditation processes in higher education and emergency medical services including Tennessee Emergency Medical Services board, SACSCOC and CAAHEP.
