Purpose of Position
We are seeking part-time employees to fill the role of Research Assistant in the Space Studies department at the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Science
Duties & Responsibilities
- The Research Assistant will support our satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning projects by engaging in associated engineering design, development, testing, and operations activities.
- Under the supervision of a faculty member conducting the research project, the position is responsible for assisting in a variety of administrative and non-administrative tasks which may include:
- Managing research efforts
- Preparing resources and materials for engineering design
- Development, testing, and operations
- Conducting hardware and software tests
- Conducting spacecraft and high-altitude balloon operational activities
- Documenting results
- Other tasks in support of satellite system, satellite ground station, and high-altitude ballooning project activities.
Minimum Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or similar areas of study.
- Experience with satellite systems, satellite ground stations, and/or high-altitude ballooning, including practical experience working with these systems.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing satellite system, satellite ground station, and/or high-altitude ballooning activities.
- Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate students in satellite system, satellite ground station and/or high-altitude ballooning activities.
