Students will support the quantum optics lab with deposition and characterization of optical thin film coatings for an NSF ExpandQISE project. Work will be performed at UND’s Nanofoundry and involve electron-beam thermal evaporation/deposition of optical thin film coatings, and spectroscopic characterization. This work is to both operationally support the research group with custom optical elements, and to perform research on our thin film deposition techniques. The position includes training on required cleanroom tools with the Nanofoundry staff, and the option to obtain an IEEE cleanroom technician credential.

Field Technician-Prairie Grouse in Grand Forks
As part of a cooperative monitoring project between the University of North Dakota and North Dakota Game and Fish, I am seeking a technician to conduct prairie grouse surveys in Grand Forks County. Survey results will be reported to North Dakota Game and Fish as part of their long-term monitoring program. The position will require a background in basic bird surveys, the ability to work in the mornings on weekend and weekdays as weather permits the surveys throughout the months of March, April and into mid-May, and strong skills in data recording and note taking. It is preferred if the student has taken Birds and Mammals or Ornithology, has the ability to work independently and in teams, background in GIS/GPS, and a flexible spring schedule in the mornings (i.e., no class before 9:30 am at least 2 days/week and available to work weekends.
