The Geography program in the School of Integrated Sciences (SIS) at James Madison University invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions in applied GIS starting August 2025, part of a broader hiring initiative across SIS themed “Technology for Resilient Futures.” This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, student-centered program with research and curricular strengths across physical, human, human-environment geography, and geospatial computing. We are seeking colleagues who can integrate and develop GIS and geospatial technology to build our students’ skills and bring new understanding to critical environmental and human challenges. As part of a supportive faculty team and with 200 Geography majors, successful candidates will thrive in a collaborative, outward-looking context and bring a passion for inclusive engaged learning. Our faculty are dedicated to innovatively shaping the future of geographical scholarship and education in this student-focused setting. Youth Development Specialist - IE in Harrisonburg
The position is responsible for supporting the development of diverse middle and high school students' interest and potential for working in healthcare fields and professions through planning, development, implementation, and monitoring program efforts across statewide project sites. An ability to model inclusive and nondiscriminatory practices in all activities is required. Through collaboration with the project team, health professionals, school officials, community members, and community professionals, the position assists youth in learning about healthcare positions and assists participants in completing the community health worker apprentice modules. Creating a positive youth health development program requires learning module content, providing group engagement, mentoring/modeling, working with families, evaluating programming, tracking outcomes, and completing reports. This project will provide extensive orientation to support the success of those selected for these position(s).

Geospatial Semester Mentor in Harrisonburg
JMU’s School of Professional & Continuing Education collaborates with individuals, business, and communities through transformative educational programs and experiences. SPCE offers a range of programs, including youth camps, adult degree completion, professional and workforce development, and lifelong learning, as well as partners with academic units across JMU to support a number of online or off-campus degree and certificate programs. SPCE partners with the College of Integrated Science and Engineering to offer a state-wide dual enrollment program called the Geospatial Semester, which trains high school students and their teachers in spatial thinking and geospatial technologies. This part-time stipend position will support high schools specifically in the Northern Virginia area. This position's assignment runs through the school year ending in May 2025. During the assignment, the position will work around 10 hours a week.

Academic Unit Head, Physics & Astronomy in Harrisonburg
James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for the position of Academic Unit Head (AUH) of the Department of Physics & Astronomy, to begin July 1, 2025. Application review will begin November 1, 2024, and the position is open until filled. The Department of Physics & Astronomy at JMU resides within the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM). We offer bachelor’s degrees in physics for approximately 90 majors in our multi-track baccalaureate-only program, as well as minors in physics and astronomy. In addition, we support the interdisciplinary minors in materials science, robotics, and data analytics, and the recruitment of and curriculum for training future physics teachers. Courses in our department enroll 3300 undergraduate students per academic year with 85% of credit hours taught in service to other STEM-H disciplines and JMU’s general education program. Our 22 full-time and 10 part time/adjunct faculty members engage in teaching and research in the areas of Astronomy/Astrophysics, Materials Science, Nuclear/Particle Physics, Computational Physics, Theory, and Soft Condensed Matter. Our faculty are supported by 2 full-time Administrative & Professional faculty and 1 classified staff member. We have additional support in grant administration, scientific computing, and media design available within the CSM. Major facilities in our department include: the 72 seat John C. Wells Planetarium with its hybrid digital and optical projection systems; the Madison Accelerator Lab, which is a user-research facility and a laboratory member of the Association for Research at University Nuclear Accelerators; a class 10000 cleanroom and research grade materials characterization instrumentation shared with the Center for Materials Science.
