We are a casual and welcoming department and seek students who are happy to help faculty/staff with scanning, copies, errands, and more. These students will also have the responsibility of cleaning blackboards and erasers approximately once a week. Work hours flexibility is helpful, and we will accommodate your class schedule. Average 10 hours per week with a maximum of 15 in special circumstances. The ideal employees would be available at least some of the following times: 8-9 Monday to Friday, and Friday afternoons.

As a part-time GEAR UP Advisor, you'll play a vital role in shaping futures while working in a supportive, mission-driven environment. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in students’ lives while gaining meaningful experience in college access and success initiatives The position reports to the Director of GEAR UP. It supports the strategic vision and the mission of Enrollment Management and Outreach. GEAR UP serves a two-year cohort from the Staunton City Public School District, starting in middle school and following the cohort through their first year of post-secondary education. GEAR UP aims to increase the rate at which high-poverty participants complete secondary education. The grant will serve the district for a period of seven years. The GEAR UP advisor works directly with students, assisting them with academic class scheduling, implementing workshops, and providing support for college applications, career research, and financial aid. The advisor also works with the Director and the Parent Liaison in data reporting to the US Department of Education. The GEAR UP Advisor will also work with students who are truant or have dropped out of school and have not yet started post-secondary enrollment.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026. Applicants with expertise in analytical, environmental, physical, nuclear, or inorganic chemistry are especially encouraged to apply. This position builds on our history of undergraduate teaching and research training that leverages over $10 million of existing instrumentation, including comprehensive nuclear chemistry facilities. JMU Chemistry is an undergraduate-only program at an R2 institution. The department currently serves approximately 200 majors and about 3000 undergraduate students each year. We offer a wide variety of courses for chemistry majors, other STEM majors, general education, and pre-health professionals. Majors are actively involved in SAACS, AXE, NOBCChE, and undergraduate research. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is actively committed to increasing the success of all students, attracting faculty and students with a range of backgrounds and experiences, and sustaining an inclusive work and learning environment. We are committed to excellence in undergraduate education, research, and mentoring undergraduates to help them reach their personal and professional goals.
