Job Purpose:

The Data Analyst supports the day-to-day technical build-out, deployment, and maintenance of Gonzaga University's enterprise data warehousing and data lakehouse environments, working primarily in Snowflake, and enterprise data pipelines, working primarily in Workato. In coordination with the Data Architect, who provides strategic direction, technical designs, and standards for reporting, data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and pipeline/integration patterns, the Data Analyst implements and maintains these environments under the direct guidance of the Director of Integrations Operations and secondary guidance from the Data Architect. This is an entry-level position intended to build foundational data engineering skills within a structured, mentored environment.

Essential Functions:

  • 45% - Data Warehouse & Lakehouse Environment Build & Maintenance
    • Build, configure, and maintain data warehouse and lakehouse environments, primarily in Snowflake, following designs and technical direction provided by the Data Architect.
    • Perform environment configuration tasks including access/role management, storage and compute configuration, and routine monitoring.
    • Implement schema, table, and view structures as designed by the Data Architect, with review from senior team members.
    • Monitor environment health, identify technical issues, and escalate or resolve issues with guidance from the Director of Integrations Operations and Data Architect.
  • 40% - Data Pipeline & Integration Development
    • Build, deploy, and maintain data pipelines, primarily using Workato, to move data between source systems, the data warehouse/lakehouse, and downstream reporting or application consumers, following designs provided by the Data Architect.
    • Assist with integrations connecting enterprise systems (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, Workday, and other University platforms) to the data warehouse/lakehouse.
    • Troubleshoot pipeline failures, data quality issues, and integration errors, escalating complex issues as needed. Document pipeline logic, data lineage, and dependencies.
  • 15% - Collaboration, Documentation & Learning
    • Work closely with the Director of Integrations Operations and the Data Architect to learn and apply architectural designs and technical standards.
    • Collaborate with the reporting/BI team, application owners, and other ITS staff to support reliable data access.
    • Maintain technical documentation for environments, pipelines, and processes.
    • Support data security and governance requirements, including access controls and FERPA/PII handling considerations.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, with the ability to query, organize, and validate data.
  • Ability to build, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines and integrations across enterprise systems.
  • Foundational understanding of cloud data warehouse and lakehouse concepts, including schemas, tables, views, storage, and access controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data quality, integration, and technical issues and escalate when appropriate.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical standards, architectural designs, and established development practices with guidance from senior team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills, including documenting data pipelines, lineage, dependencies, configurations, and technical processes.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with technical teams, application owners, and other stakeholders while appropriately handling sensitive institutional data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Snowflake or another cloud data warehouse platform.
  • Experience with Workato or a similar iPaaS/integration platform.
  • Working knowledge of SQL.
  • Basic scripting/programming experience (Python or similar).
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner or Salesforce.
  • Prior experience in a higher education IT environment.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: up to $25.97 ($54K annual)

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 25.93

Midpoint Salary (Non-Exempt): 32.40

Maximum Salary (Non-Exempt): 38.88
