The JPO will contribute to managing and strengthening partnerships with key public partners through the coordination of high-level advocacy, daily engagement with counterparts, and support to resource mobilization under the supervision of Deputy Team Lead and overall guidance of the Director, Washington DC Office. The position’s purpose is to provide support in deepening collaboration with key stakeholders and helping to provide an interface for environmental scanning, knowledge exchange, resource mobilization, and policy influence within the scope of assignment. The key result is to ensure greater visibility for UNICEF and influence in support of its mission. Positions at the P2/NOB level are considered as supportive roles to higher level professionals that are centered on providing research, analysis and recommendations . Therefore, while these positions contribute substantively to organization-wide strategies, they should also be considered as opportunities for incumbents to acquire professional expertise, organizational knowledge and exposure for further career advancement.

The Child Protection Specialist reports to the Chief, Child Protection for guidance and general supervision. The Specialist supports the development and preparation of the Child Protection Programme(s), in particular work on strengthening the Government’s capacity to reform legislative, regulatory, and budgetary frameworks. It provides strategic guidance and oversight to diversion and restorative justice and child-friendly legal aid and child labour; and is responsible for the management, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of one child protection output within the country Programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes. Incumbent facilitates the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable contributions to national and international efforts to create a protective environment for children against all harm, and to protect their rights to survival, development and well being as established under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, international treaties/frameworks and UN intergovernmental bodies. The Specialist contributes to the achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.
