Why your role matters

Internal Audit provides independent assurance that the University is effectively managing key operational and strategic risks. The function assesses and strengthens processes related to risk management, internal controls, and governance, contributing to the University’s overall accountability and performance.

The Senior Analyst, Internal Audit supports the delivery of audit activities aligned with UNSW’s Progress for All Strategy and key risk areas. The role assists in executing projects within the Strategic Internal Audit Plan and provides independent, objective assurance and advisory services to enhance operational efficiency and internal controls. This position regularly engages with mid- to senior-level management to discuss findings and recommend improvements, and reports to the Internal Audit Senior Manager with no direct reports.

About the Role

Accountabilities for this role include:

  • Support the Director, Internal Audit by acting as a trusted partner to university leadership and stakeholders.
  • Conduct business reviews, including ad hoc audits and assistance with fraud investigations, in consultation with Internal Audit Managers and Senior Managers.
  • Evaluate internal controls, identify risks, and recommend improvements across University, Faculty and Division levels, including cross-functional discussions.
  • Monitor and follow up on management’s actions to address control issues, providing further recommendations where needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with third-party providers, operational management, and the Risk Management team to deliver audit activities.
  • Produce high-quality audit deliverables, contribute to internal audit systems and methodologies, manage end-to-end audit projects, and stay current on regulatory and industry developments.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Technology, with a strong background in risk and controls.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to build credibility and rapport quickly, with strong interpersonal, leadership and communication capability.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information and influence senior stakeholders.
  • High level of computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office and database tools, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Understanding of the higher education sector and a commitment to UNSW’s objectives, values, policies and guidelines.
