Lead Groundsworker in Chico
Under general supervision, the Lead Groundsworker provides lead direction to Grounds employees performing specialized campus-wide grounds maintenance, including athletic field maintenance, and assists with landscape and grounds improvement projects such as planting trees and shrubs, maintaining irrigation systems, and performing concrete and asphalt work. This classification is distinguished from other grounds classifications by its responsibility for leading, coordinating, assigning, training, and inspecting the work of others. It differs from the Groundsworker classification through the higher level of technical knowledge required in horticulture, landscape maintenance, irrigation systems, and plant care. Incumbents coordinate work assignments for Grounds staff and student employees, complete required documentation, conduct safety meetings and training, reinforce safe work practices, support campus events, and provide landscape maintenance and support throughout the campus as needed. The Lead Groundsworker serves as a key field resource, helping coordinate daily operations, maintain work quality and safety standards, and support campus projects, events, and seasonal priorities. This position offers more than a career – it’s an opportunity to grow professionally while enjoying a comprehensive benefits package, which includes: • 15 paid holidays, plus vacation and sick leave to support work-life balance; • Exceptional health benefits options, some currently with no monthly out-of-pocket premium; • Membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), offering lifetime retirement medical benefits for qualifying retirees; • And access to the fee waiver education program for eligible employees or their dependents.
